This is the closest I've been, recently, to gardening or horticulture.
Zappos' float in the Rose Parade
But, you know, I see a few signs of fresh, new growth among the sodden remains of fall. Before long I'll be out there with a shovel and a camera to document it all. Happy New (gardening) Year, everybody!
I hope you enjoyed the parade floats - did you see the parade too? I keep meaning to get down to Pasadena to see the floats after the event - I'm not up to sleeping on the sidewalk to score a space anymore.
Hi Kris! We did watch the parade. We purchased grandstand tickets so did not have to sleep on the street. However, the parking ticket said to be parked not later than 6am and that fact was reiterated by the ticket seller and highlighted on the ticket. We took them seriously--waking up by four and getting out on the road by five. And then we sat--for hours. I can't really recommend the experience as it was not as immersive as I'd hoped. TV, with the close-ups and great camera work actually seems more immersive to me. One year we went down to a park after the parade and got up close with the floats parked there. In some ways, that was a better experience--especially when combined with watching the televised version of the parade int eh morning.
Hey, Jason! This was the Rose Parade in Pasadena, CA. It's a BIG parade--like the Macy's TG Day parade. All the floats must be decorated/covered 100% with floral material.

Happy New Gardening Year to you, Emily! Yes, there are more signs of new life out there every day! Hope your holidays were faboo!
Thanks, Peter. If anything, we certainly did cover a lot of ground and did many things during this Holiday season :-)
Happy New Year to you too, Emily! I've been out there a couple of times doing odd jobs, but it's hard to get into it when it's so cold and damp.

Hi Alison! There have been a few, odd warm days here and there, but I've been pretty unmotivated, generally speaking :-)

What parade was this? And does the pink hippo have any special significance?
