About the Garden

Our house and garden are located on an 1/8 acre lot in northeast Seattle, USDA hardiness zone 8b.  Normally, however, I choose plants suitable for zone 7a and below--I am not a huge fan of zonal denial.  We are fairly close to Lake Washington and only about 100 feet above sea level.  For those who know the area, we live in the Bryant neighborhood located just behind University Village Shopping Center.  And I get to shop there ALL. THE. TIME!!!!  But seriously, Seattle is a great place for a gardener to live.  Ravenna Gardens and City People's are just two fun and fabulous garden stores in our neighborhood and there are many other great nurseries and garden centers within easy driving distance.

We moved to this house on the day after Thanksgiving, 2006 and our son was born shortly after.  The house had been "flipped" by house flippers and the garden was a blank slate.  We have been tackling projects as time and budget allow and I'll share before & afters of those projects as I get the chance to post them.

French drain project
Garbage/recycling can enclosure "Garbage-mahal"
Poured concrete entry walk, stairs, and stoop
Front yard fencing, decks and boardwalk
